Fairway metals are special golf clubs best used when distance and accuracy are both needed - like on the first tee. But don’t use a driver if you haven’t practiced with it before play. That simple tip will help you save strokes at the beginning of your round.

When Distance Matters

When the distance to the green exceeds the capabilities of any other irons in the bag, fairway metals are a great choice. They are sometimes good to use when the flag is placed at the back of the green. This is beneficial because stopping them takes a bit of skill, unless you have a 7- or 11-metal.

Make Good Contact

A sweeping motion is required. Avoid taking a deep divot whenever possible. When using this special golf club, your main goal is to make good contact and get a good swing.

Don’t try to over-swing while using this special club. Let the club give you the accuracy with the distance. Remember, keeping it in play is first and foremost.

Document Your Play

Always monitor how you swing these golf irons by documenting your play. Keeping written notes about your golf game will let you know whether you should use a special club or a regular golf iron. Playing from memory causes mental errors, like picking the incorrect club but swinging it well.
